The Social Justice and Service Committee (SJSC) asked Council at its last meeting to approved contributions from NLUC to The Glory Hall and to the new youth shelter. Council approved the request subject to Congregational approval at the January 31, 2021, Annual Meeting. Attached is the summary of the action item on the annual meeting agenda, which, but for a small glitch, would have been in the Annual Meeting Packet.
Council asked SJSC to hold a workshop for any members who would like more information. It will occur this Sunday January 24 after the worship service (at about 12:30 pm) on Zoom. Here is the link: https://zoom.us/j/398434443. We look forward to sharing information about the need for each of these contributions, as well as about the financial implications of the contributions. We hope everyone with questions will be able to take part so we are all well-prepared for the Annual Meeting. There are already $30,000 in pledges to support these contributions; the workshop will also give you a chance to consider whether to make a personal contribution in support of one of these important projects.
Jane Ginter put together a fun Trivia Quiz about Northern Light United Church. She did eight one-hour sessions during January and February on Zoom. Nearly 60 people attended, including former member Jim McCown who called in from Maine. Several people attended twice, and two folks joined us three times!
If you missed the Trivia Quiz or if you’d like to review it again, you can watch it on YouTube!
You can also find a link on the “recorded services” on our webpage nluchurch.org.
Here is how Jane advertised the Trivia Quiz:
How much do you know about Northern Light? Do you know what connection Bruce Springsteen has with Northern Light? Do you know what animal was found live at Northern Light after it was missing for six months? Join us for a one-hour quick Trivia Game and see how much you really do know . . . or what you still have to learn! We have lots of questions! Do you have the answers? Contact Jane Ginter if you have any questions . . . or answers! 907 209-8185, ginteralaska@gmail.com
